Alexandra Petrou, PhD

About Dr. Alexandra Petrou

I’m Dr. Alexandra Petrou, and I’m glad you’re here.

My role as a therapist is to create a safe emotional space where you will feel increasingly comfortable expressing the spectrum of your feelings and thoughts.

I imagine therapy as a journey from a place of suffering to a place of healing and see my role as that of a fellow traveler and a guide who listens to your experience and gives you the space to create a story with a beginning, a middle, and an end. I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist providing Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in Greek and English in Midtown Manhattan. I am also an out-of-state telehealth provider for the state of Florida.

I have worked for more than a decade in a variety of settings with adults from different walks of life. I specialize in depression, anxiety, and trauma. I also have extensive experience working with abuse, grief, academic difficulties, creative blocks, work conflicts, immigration challenges, and health-related problems.

I am fluent in both English and Greek and appreciate the challenges presented to those navigating and encountering multiple cultural spaces.

Although my therapeutic approach resides predominantly in the psychodynamic/psychoanalytic tradition, I like thinking creatively about individual difficulties.
